Salute 70 ConcertTHE FOX and THE WOOLF

The Rodger Fox Jazz Ensemble with Ray Woolf. Special guest is Erna Ferry.


Rodger FOX, New Zealand's foremost jazz trombonist, big band leader jazz educator and arranger is coming to Kapiti on Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 May. He is bringing five musicians from the big band ,together with iconic New Zealand entertainer RAY WOOLF and special guest jazz singer ERNA FERRY who will entertain us with music from the 30s and 40s and a bit more.They will play two concerts - on 24 and 25 May - at the lovely beachfront Memorial Hall in Paekakariki.

These concerts will be part of the Salute 70 Kapiti US Marine's Celebrations of the presence of 15000 US Marines in Paekakariki during 1942-44. Former Mayor Jenny Rowan will officially open the weekend of activities which lead up to US Memorial Day on Monday 26 May.

Holder of the ONZM and Hon Doctorate of Music Rodger has performed with his Big Band at several Interrnational Music Festivals, including the Montreux Jazz Festival,and later this year will perform at the London, Edinburgh and Glasgow Jazz Festivals., culminating this tour with concerts in Belgium ( organised by Mary) and a recording at the famed Abbey Road Studios.
Singer, actor, TV and film star Ray WOOLF who has also received the ONZM is no stranger to the majority of Kiwis. His singing career spans fifty years and he will be remembered as an actor for roles in Sir Peter Jackson's movie "King Kong" and more recently as the raunchy father in "Nothing Trivial".

Erna Ferry hails from the Manawatu and has performed at many of New Zealand leading jazz festival as well as singing in the USA at the Monterey Jazz Festival, the E-String Club in Las Vegas and various venues in Los Angeles. Erna will present some classic Peggy Lee material.
