Rustem Khamidullin and Sarah Watkins
CELLO and PIANO DUO in PAEKAKARIKI
Kapiti music-lovers are eagerly looking forward to the appearance of a new STAR cellist Rustem Khamidullin, who was the 2014 winner of the Gisbourne cello competition and who will be the guest of the Wellington Regional Orchestra this month.
Auckland pianist Sarah Watkins (NZTrio) will accompany him in Paekakariki on Sunday 19 June at 2:30PM.
Their programme includes Schubert Arpeggione Sonata, Schumann Three Fantasiestucke, Rachmaninoff Sonata (3rd movement) and Cesar Franck Sonata.
In addition , concert organiser Mary Gow says "Some surprises are promised!"
Rustem Khamidullin born in 1989 in Ufa, Bashkortostan, Russia. His grandmother and mother are pianists, and his grandfather was one of the first professional cellists in Kazakhstan. His studies included the Ufa Academy of Music and later the Gnesiny Academy in Moscow. He studied in Switzerland and the USA and is currently playing numerous recitals in Germany, Switzerland and Russia. He has achieved success in a number of competitions.
Sarah Watkins (piano) is well known to Kapiti audiences as a member of the NZTrio, one of New Zealand's leading music ensembles. She has enjoyed an impressive career as chamber musician, collaborative partner and recording artist, touring widely throughout Japan, England and the USA. She is a graduate of the Juilliard School in New York City, where she earned both Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees. Resident in the US for fourteen years, Sarah worked as a staff pianist at Juilliard, Yale University and the Aspen Music Festival.
Mulled Wine Concerts are now in their ninth season in the Memorial Hall and concert-goers have learned to value the venue for its sparkling acoustics and superb position with views to Kapiti Island. Local Kapiti artists show their artwork at the hall, mulled wine and sangria are also Included!
