Acclaimed by the Dominion Post as “...a guitarist of superb technical accomplishment and a musician of perception and style”, Matthew Marshall has been teaching guitar since 1983 and has given master classes all over the world.

A respected academic musician as well as a performer, he is Professor Dean of the School of Creative and Performing Arts at Central Queensland University, Australia. He has performed throughout Europe, Asia, Pacific Islands, America, Australasia, and from Iceland to Easter Island! As a recording artist, he has appeared on radio and television and also features on nine CDs for solo guitar, with chamber ensembles and orchestra.

Mary Gow says MWCS is very lucky to host Matthew Marshall on one of his infrequent appearances to New Zealand and expects the concert to be extremely popular. This is his second appearance in Paekakariki.

She says his last concert was notable not only for the different guitars he played, but for the close attention members of the audience paid to his technique and finger-work.

Matthew will present several well-known works for classical guitar including: Benjamin Britten's “Nocturnal” (Op.70) for solo guitar, a set of continuous variations of a song written for voice and lute, by the English renaissance composer John Dowland and “Sonatina” by the well-known Spanish composer Federico Moreno Torroba.
